Wendy dropped me off at the Canberra Airport with my bag and bike which all weighed in at 31kg. I have since shaved at least 10kg off that with lightweight gear and a lighter bike. Although 31kg was still OK with Qantas as I was in the Qantas Club. I went to check my bike in at the bulk luggage and pressed the emergency STOP button for the carousel instead of the HELP button! That caused a bit of a stir for a few seconds. Unfortunately, Wendy was not allowed to come into the departure lounge to see me off due to the usual array of deadly tools she carries around in her hand-bag. Even in 2005 security was tight at airport; post 9/11 of course.
Arrived in Sydney with hours to spare before my London flight so I took the bus to East Gardens and then Circular Quay for a wander around. It actually took longer than I anticipated due to heavy traffic, so I didn’t get to fully enjoy the fair on offer at the Club. I vowed to stay put next time. Back to the Qantas Club and had a glass of 2002 Krondoff Shiraz, which was very good and one of my favourites. I missed Wendy as I was sitting around and wished she was coming with me. However, with my trusty new flip-phone, at least I will be able to talk to her on the phone. Eventually got underway on the Qantas 747 Jumbo and landed in Singapore fairly well on time.
